Homegrown Bluegrass
Sun 14th December 2025Doors 5pm, show 6pm – all seated
There has been an interest in bluegrass and bluegrass related music in the Leeds, Bradford and surrounding areas for many years. There were earlier bands and duos , but the first main Bluegrass Band in the area was ‘The Chevin Ramblers’ and obviously, with a name like that, was formed in the Otley Folk Club in around 1970 and was together for around 13 years. As well as playing at many venues in the Yorkshire area and further afield, including many of the earliest bluegrass events, one of it’s main claims to fame was forming the Leeds Bluegrass Club which ran for over 33 years. Although the club is no longer running, two of the original Chevin Ramblers are still playing the music they love and are among the players in the Homegrown Bluegrass Event
We bring together a number of bands playing their own kind of Bluegrass/Americana music and you will note that some of the number of musicians in the lists here double up in bands as many get together in informal picking sessions.

The Grove Band
This 5 piece band that have been together for over ten years. During that time they have played at most of the bluegrass festivals and other venues on various occasions through out the UK. The band bring together a traditional line up of Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Dobro and Bass, and with a tight rhythm and strong harmonies, create a strong bluegrass sound.

Dogwood Mountain Railroad
A band that has not been together for long, but are all well established players, and in fact they won the open mic contest at the Battlefield Bluegrass Festival this July. They play a mixture of country and bluegrass material with some strong harmony singing. With a mixed line up of five featuring male and female vocals and accompanied with Guitars, Mandolins, Mandola and Bass.

Trailer Crash
This line up of four bring together Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin and Bass, and vocals with a blues/jazzy feel, though they can also play some straight down the road Bluegrass music if the mood takes them The vocals can be either a male or female lead with some tight two part harmonies.

Scott O'Brien Attempt
As the name implies, they are influenced by the recorded material of Tim O'Brien (three times a guest here at TLR!) and Darrell Scott, who are both top US artists in the field of bluegrass music. With Guitars , Mandolin and a Tea Chest Bass this is again something with a different feel of the Americana music. The good strong harmony singing with both male and female give the band a great sound.
