Piano legend, Ben Waters, last appeared here at TLR in June 2014, since when he has played literally all over the world and even features on the Rolling Stones latest album, Foreign Tongues! His list of credits, both live and in the studio, includes Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck, Jools Holland, Dave Gilmour, Cher, PJ Harvey, Bobby Womack, Amy Macdonald and Dave Stewart!
Tonight’s show features his son, saxophonist Tom Waters and renowned percussionist James Larter. It’s going to be another legendary night here in Saltaire.
Ben Waters Trio
Award winning father and son duo Ben & Tom Waters bring their acclaimed live show to theatres across the UK, joined by special guest percussionist James Larter.
The tour marks the relaunch of Ben Waters’ landmark Rolling Stones tribute album, first recorded in 2010 in honour of Ian Stewart — a founding architect of British rhythm & blues. The original release featured an extraordinary cast including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman, reuniting Wyman with the Stones on record for the first time since 1992. Also appearing were PJ Harvey, Jools Holland and others, with artwork by legendary pop artist Sir Peter Blake. Record Collector described it as “one of the most collectable records.”
Now reissued on Grinning Dog Records, the new edition includes brand new recordings with Keith Richards, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, and Jools Holland. One newly recorded track with Richards is dedicated to Charlie Watts, with whom Ben performed more than 100 shows worldwide as part of The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie.
Ben Waters is internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading boogie woogie and rock ’n’ roll pianists, celebrated for his high energy performances and collaborations with major artists. His son, Tom Waters — Royal Academy of Music graduate, saxophonist and bandleader — draws on rhythm & blues, jazz, soul, funk and rock ’n’ roll. Between the ages of 13 and 16 he toured internationally with his father, performing more than 900 shows across 52 countries, forging a musical connection that is instinctive and almost telepathic.
Joining them is award winning percussionist and multi instrumentalist James Larter, a long time collaborator of Tom’s and one of the UK’s most versatile rhythmic musicians.
Together, the trio deliver a dynamic show rooted in rhythm & blues, rock ’n’ roll, funk, improvisation and humour — performed with the chemistry that comes from years of playing side by side.
